Interpretations

Upright
The Five of Wands brings the disruption that Fives always carry — but in fire, disruption means creative friction. Under the first decan of Leo (Saturn), personal expression collides with limitation. Five fires compete, each convinced its vision is correct. This is the card of healthy competition, creative sparring, and the productive disagreements that sharpen ideas.
Reversed
In shadow, the Five of Wands becomes either destructive conflict or conflict avoidance. Arguments may escalate from creative tension to genuine hostility, or you may be suppressing necessary disagreements to maintain false peace. Sometimes the strife is internal: competing desires pulling you in five directions at once.
The Card
Titled 'Strife' in the Thoth tradition, this card corresponds to the first decan of Leo (0°–10°) under the rulership of Saturn. The creative authority of this decan meets Saturn's testing pressure, producing friction that either strengthens or breaks. Fives in every suit represent the destabilization of the Four's achieved order. In Wands, this destabilization comes through competition and challenge. The question isn't whether conflict will arise but whether you'll use it as fuel for growth or let it scatter your energy into futile rivalries.
