The Four of Pentacles is the grip of security — the material stability that comes from careful accumulation, and the fear of loss that accompanies it. Under the third decan of Capricorn (Sun), earned authority meets the temptation to hold on too tightly. This is the card of financial stability, strong boundaries, and the fine line between healthy saving and miserly hoarding.

Reversed

In shadow, the Four of Pentacles becomes either the release of excessive control or the consequences of holding on too tightly. You may be learning to loosen your grip, discovering that generosity doesn't equal vulnerability, or losing what you tried too hard to keep.

The Card

Titled 'Power' in the Thoth tradition, this card corresponds to the third decan of Capricorn (20°–30°) under the rulership of the Sun. The culmination of Capricorn's discipline creates substantial material power. Fours stabilize their suit's energy. In Pentacles, stability means having built something worth protecting — and the psychological shift that comes with it. Once you have something to lose, you think differently. The Four asks: is your security serving your life, or has your life become servant to your security?
